Science is a specific way of examining nature. It is not necessarily an absolute truth. As discoveries are made, science presents as many questions as it answers. The knowledge gained by the scientific method and process skills are testable and subject to change if new observations or interpretations pass the rigorous scrutiny of other scientists. The Littleton Public Schools science curriculum encourages students to be curious, creative, skeptical, and open-minded. Therefore, it enables students to do the following:

 

1. Acquire and use skills and practices of inquiry through the scientific process.

2. Understand developmentally sequenced content that is based on scientific principles in life, earth/space, and   the physical sciences.

3. Integrate knowledge from various fields of science as well as other curricular disciplines.

4. Utilize technological and scientific resources to enhance communication and concept development.

5. Understand the role of science and technology in human history and modern society.

6. Understand that the nature of science is consistent, observable, predictable, testable, and dynamic.

7. Develop the ability to identify critical questions and evaluate proposed solutions.

8. Utilize science for improving and enriching the world for present and future generations.
