Watch for midterms coming home this Thursday (Oct. 2) in the weekly packets. Also conference slips will be sent home on Oct. 2. Please return the conference notes as soon as possible. Conferences will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15. and Thursday, Oct. 16. Don't forget to visit the Book Fair during conferences.

Fifth graders will encounter a stimulating and challenging curriculum. Our study of American history from European explorers through post Revolutionary War integrates our social studies, reading, and writing curricular areas. Our science curriculum focuses on electricity, astronomy, and a study of the human body. Problem solving is emphasized in math along with computation in whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. Units in geometry, measurement, and graphing make for a busy year. Fifth grade is a transitional year, a bridge between elementary and middle school. Students need to work hard and always do their very best.  It is important for students to become more independent in their academic work/study habits and their ability to solve personal problems, so they will be ready to meet the new challenges that await them in middle school.
